Sudan Reaffirms Support for Peace Mediation While Reviewing Proposal

KHARTOUM, July 13, 2026 - Sudan’s Security and Defence Council has reaffirmed its commitment to peace efforts, announcing that it is engaging positively with a mediation proposal presented by international facilitators while maintaining conditions aimed at safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The council, chaired by Sovereign Council Chairman and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reviewed the proposed framework during a regular meeting and agreed on a unified government response.

Officials said Sudan remains open to initiatives that reflect the aspirations of the Sudanese people and preserve the country's unity, independence, and territorial integrity.

The council also dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding the contents of the negotiations, urging restraint in publishing information that could affect national security or undermine ongoing peace efforts.

The latest discussions follow the presentation of an international peace proposal outlining a roadmap for ending the conflict, which recently prompted diplomatic consultations between Sudanese officials and international mediators.

While expressing support for mediation, Sudanese authorities reiterated that any future agreement must be acceptable to both the government and the Sudanese people. Officials also stressed that military operations would continue alongside diplomatic efforts.

The peace initiative has generated mixed reactions among Sudan’s political groups, with some viewing it as an opportunity to advance negotiations, while others argue that it does not adequately address the conditions necessary to end the conflict.

The government has consistently maintained that any formal negotiations require the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to withdraw from territories under their control and assemble their fighters in designated locations before a broader political settlement can move forward.
