Four Chinese Nationals Kidnapped in Koulikoro Region Amid Ongoing Insecurity

Koulikoro Region, April 5, 2026 - Security sources report that four nationals of China were abducted in southwestern Mali in an incident attributed to armed militants.

According to local and security reports, the kidnapping occurred on Sunday evening, April 5, 2026, in the Narena area of the Kangaba district, within the Koulikoro region.

The operation is believed to have been carried out by members of the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin), highlighting the group’s continued ability to conduct targeted abductions, including against foreign nationals.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, and the whereabouts of the abducted individuals remain unknown.

The kidnapping adds to growing concerns over security conditions in parts of southern Mali, where armed groups continue to operate across rural transit routes and remote communities.
