Women Raped and Property Looted on Tuonane-Busurungi Road
Walikale, March 22, 2026 - Cases of rape and looting were reported on March 13, 2026, along the Tuonane-Busurungi road in the Waloa Loanda group, Walikale territory.
According to local authorities, unidentified armed men intercepted civilians on the road. Several women were raped, while money and belongings were stolen. Administrative sources in the Wanianga sector confirmed the attacks.
Security services have launched investigations to identify the perpetrators and bring them before judicial authorities. Victims are receiving treatment at local health facilities.
The assaults occurred in March, a month dedicated to defending and promoting women’s rights, raising serious concerns about the persistent insecurity in rural areas of Walikale territory.
