Wave of Explosive Attacks Targets Malian Armed Forces

SÉGOU / KIDAL, Mali - Armed extremist groups have intensified their campaign against Malian defense and security forces, employing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to deadly effect across multiple regions.

On October 2, an army vehicle struck a roadside bomb between Bla and San in the Ségou region, killing all soldiers on board. The following day, a second explosion occurred on the Aguelhoc-Alkit road in the Kidal region, where another Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) vehicle hit a mine. According to militant sources, all nine occupants were killed.

The Malian army has not publicly commented on either incident. However, security analysts note that the back-to-back attacks illustrate the insurgents’ continued ability to disrupt military operations despite recent government offensives.

In response, the army’s general staff reportedly intensified counterterrorism operations across central and northern Mali. While officials acknowledged sustaining significant losses, they emphasized ongoing efforts to maintain pressure on armed religious groups and restore state control in contested zones.
