Walikale: Violent Clashes Leave Four Dead and Homes Burned
Walikale, North Kivu - December 15, 2025 - Violent clashes erupted on Monday, December 15, in the village of Tuonane, Waloa Loanda group, between suspected FDLR fighters and Mai-Mai Kifuafua militiamen.
The fighting, reportedly linked to a land dispute involving an FDLR leader, began around 4:00 a.m. and lasted most of the day. The clashes left at least four dead, including two leaders of the Kifuafua group, and caused significant destruction: six houses and two traditional huts (barza) were burned.
One civilian remains missing, while most villagers fled to the nearby town of Hombo for safety. Authorities report that a fragile calm has since returned to the area.
