Walikale: FDLR Burns Village, Four Killed
Walikale, December 15, 2025 - The FDLR armed group burned down an entire village in the Tuonane area of Waloa Loanda, in Walikale territory, North Kivu, killing four people and forcing residents to flee to nearby villages.
Local sources say an FDLR fighter known as “General Mudayongwa” ordered residents to leave land he claimed to have purchased from local authorities-an allegation the community denies. After villagers refused, FDLR fighters torched homes and attacked the area.
Two members of the Mai-Mai Kifuafua group were among those killed during clashes involving small arms and heavy weapons.
The attack comes despite commitments in the June 27 DRC-Rwanda peace agreement to dismantle the FDLR. A UN experts’ report released December 8 said the group continues to operate, with elements of the Congolese army still cooperating with it.
