Uvira: 11 Dead in Two Days of Clashes Between FARDC and Wazalendo
Uvira, South Kivu - Calm returned to Uvira on Tuesday, November 25, following two days of deadly clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and Wazalendo fighters.
The death toll reached 11, with 4 wounded, including soldiers, Wazalendo fighters, and civilians caught in the crossfire. Hostilities began on Sunday, resulting in 9 deaths and 2 wounded, and continued on Monday, claiming 2 more lives and leaving 2 additional injured.
The clashes plunged the local population into a climate of trauma, despite the resumption of activities on Tuesday. Local sources report that the violence stems from a climate of mistrust and a power struggle between the two forces, which, despite their conflicts, are working together to contain the advance of the AFC-M23 rebellion toward Uvira, Tanganyika, and Haut-Katanga.
