UNICEF Aid Reaches Displaced And Returnee Households In Djugu

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Djugu, August 19, 2026 - Emergency aid reached more than 4,000 displaced and returnee households in Djugu territory, underscoring the continuing humanitarian strain caused by insecurity in Ituri province.

The assistance, delivered through PPSSP with UNICEF support, covered families in the Dala and Zengo health areas of Mambisa chiefdom. It included household items, water, sanitation and hygiene kits, and shelter support, while more than 1,000 women and girls received hygiene kits.

The distribution points to persistent displacement pressures in eastern DRC, where insecurity continues to affect basic services and population movements. Humanitarian access and stabilization in Ituri remain important indicators for governance and security conditions beyond the mining and commercial centers.
