Uganda Reaffirms Recognition of Sudan’s Military-Led Government

KHARTOUM, July 4, 2026 - Uganda has reaffirmed its recognition of Sudan's military-led administration as the country's sole legitimate government, rejecting the establishment of any parallel governing authority and expressing support for Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The position was conveyed during a visit to Khartoum by Joseph Ocwet, Director of Uganda's External Intelligence Organisation and special envoy of President Yoweri Museveni, who delivered official messages from the Ugandan leader to Sudanese authorities.

During his visit, Ocwet held separate meetings with Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Prime Minister Kamel Idris, and Sovereign Council Deputy Chairman Malik Agar to discuss the ongoing conflict and bilateral relations.

Uganda reiterated its opposition to any attempts to create alternative governing structures in Sudan, describing the country's military-led administration as the only legitimate authority.

Sudanese officials used the meetings to brief the Ugandan delegation on the impact of the conflict, including damage to critical infrastructure and the government's ongoing political and peace initiatives aimed at restoring stability.

The discussions also focused on regional cooperation, with Sudanese officials emphasizing the importance of African-led solutions to conflicts on the continent and calling for closer coordination between Khartoum and Kampala in addressing regional security challenges.

According to Sudanese officials, the Ugandan envoy indicated that President Museveni intends to place the Sudan crisis among the priorities of his new presidential term, underscoring Uganda's continued engagement in regional efforts to support peace and stability.
