Uganda army arrests 20 senior officers in anti-corruption crackdown ordered by Muhoozi

The arrests are linked to allegations of fraud and mismanagement in military procurement, including inflating contract prices, misusing funds, and accepting bribes tied to supply deals for the armed forces and intelligence services. Other officers implicated include James Birungi, a former military intelligence chief, who faces accusations ranging from corruption to serious breaches in operational conduct. Sources indicate the crackdown is part of Gen. Muhoozi’s broader effort to restore discipline and professionalism within the Ugandan military since taking office.
