Uganda And Burundi Explore Troop Contributions To Gaza Peace Mission

Jerusalem, August 24, 2026 - Military chiefs from Uganda and Burundi visited Israel for talks on how their countries could contribute to an international mission in the Gaza Strip under a broader plan to restore stability and support reconstruction.

Uganda is in final preparations to deploy troops after parliamentary approval, with plans to send about 1,200 soldiers if talks advance. A Burundian delegation led by three military officers said Bujumbura is willing to join but remains in early planning stages.

The proposed mission could involve roughly 20,000 troops tasked with monitoring ceasefire implementation, assisting Palestinian police training and facilitating aid delivery. Other countries including Morocco, Kosovo, Kazakhstan and Albania have also expressed interest.

For Rwanda, expanded African military deployments to the Middle East can affect troop availability, diplomatic alignments and regional security partnerships involving Kampala and Bujumbura.
