Two Dead and Several Injured in Nia-Nia During Anti-ADF Protests

Kinshasa, April 4, 2026 - Nia-Nia, Ituri Province April 3, 2026 - At least two people were killed and several others injured on Friday, April 3, during violent unrest in Nia-Nia in Ituri Province, as public anger over repeated ADF attacks escalated into clashes between residents and security forces.

The violence erupted when a gold miner suspected of collaboration with armed groups was brought to the police station, sparking outrage among residents who gathered in large numbers and attempted to storm the facility.

Tensions quickly escalated into confrontations between protesters and police officers. In an effort to disperse the crowd, security forces opened fire, leaving one civilian dead and two others wounded.

During the unrest, another individual suspected by residents of involvement in recruitment activities for armed groups was also targeted by the crowd, highlighting the depth of mistrust and fear within the community.

The protests come amid growing anger over a series of deadly attacks attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), including recent killings in nearby localities that left dozens of civilians dead, homes burned, and significant destruction of property.
