Tribute to Lt. Col. Willy Ngoma

Kigali, March 8, 2026 - Lt. Col. Willy Ngoma, widely remembered as the founder of “Les Lions de Sarambwe”, led the M23 armed group in defending Congolese Tutsis who faced killings, expulsions, and forced displacement to Rwanda and neighboring countries.

Ngoma earned the nickname “Quickly Quickly!”, a phrase he famously shouted at mercenaries from Romania in early 2025, during operations that expelled them from DRC territory. His decisive leadership forced these mercenaries to return to Europe, showcasing his courage and tactical skill.

Those familiar with the M23 of 2012-2013 recognized Ngoma as a loyal and capable leader, seen as a worthy successor to Col. Kazarama Vianney. He was respected across all ranks, from junior fighters to senior commanders, for his dedication and commitment to the cause.

Ngoma’s legacy is remembered for his courage, leadership, and sacrifice in the defense of vulnerable communities in eastern Congo, cementing his place as a symbol of resilience and loyalty within the M23 movement.
