Timbuktu Region: Armed Group Claims Attack on Military Convoy
Bamako, April 18, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) announced that it carried out an attack targeting a military vehicle near Timbuktu in northern Mali.
According to the statement, an improvised explosive device was used against a convoy reportedly linked to the Malian armed forces and allied foreign personnel operating in the area.
The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in the vicinity of the historic city of Timbuktu. No independent verification of the attack or potential casualties has been made available at this stage, and official military sources have not released detailed confirmation regarding the reported incident.
