Three Dead in Several Days of Youth Clashes in Mangobo and Makiso

Kisangani, April 15, 2026 - At least three people have been killed in Kisangani following several days of violent clashes between groups of youths in the Mangobo commune and nearby areas, triggering displacement and property destruction.

In the Imbolo neighborhood of Mangobo, fighting erupted on April 12 after armed individuals reportedly raided three houses near the Bobokoli School Complex. Tensions escalated the following day when a young man from the Segama neighborhood was assaulted and later died, with reports indicating his body was burned.

The incident sparked retaliatory attacks, as groups of youths from Segama entered Imbolo and vandalized homes. In response, local youths from Imbolo mobilized and launched counterattacks, leading to continuous clashes that persisted until Wednesday morning.

According to local accounts, two additional youths from Segama were killed during the confrontations on Monday and Tuesday, bringing the total death toll in Mangobo to at least three.

The violence has forced several residents in Imbolo to flee their homes in search of safety. Police presence has been reported in the area, although sporadic tensions continue, with some groups still resisting.

A similar wave of unrest has also been reported in the Makiso commune, particularly between 0th and 5th Avenues in Camp Ketele. There, youth clashes have been ongoing since Monday for reasons that remain unclear. Preliminary reports indicate several serious injuries and cases of looted businesses.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the coordinated nature of the incidents or the measures being taken to restore calm in the city.
