Tanganyika: UNICEF Intensifies Support for Displaced and Violence-Affected Populations

Kinshasa, October 29, 2025 - The province of Tanganyika is witnessing a heightened humanitarian response by UNICEF, which announced on 25 October 2025 that it would expand interventions for people displaced by military operations and community violence.

At the Kinyema and Mangala sites, where thousands of Bantu and Twa communities have sought refuge since January 2025, UNICEF has distributed household kits, hygiene items, and provided free healthcare for vulnerable populations. The organisation has also assisted 3,544 families at the Gare-Makala site near Kalemie with mats, blankets, and other non-food items, while establishing a reception and training centre for unaccompanied children and survivors of sexual violence.

These measures aim to address critical challenges, including limited access to clean water, malnutrition, and school dropout, amid a serious humanitarian crisis in the province.
