Surrender of AFC/M23 Fighters Reported in Pinga

Walikale March 13, 2026 - A group of AFC/M23 fighters who recently surrendered in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has arrived in Pinga, located in Walikale Territory, following their defection from rebel ranks. The fighters, initially reported to have laid down their arms in Chanjikiro, in the Kisimba group, were transferred to Pinga on March 10. Local and administrative authorities confirmed their presence and indicated that they are currently being held under supervision pending further decisions regarding their status and reintegration process. According to information gathered on the ground, the former combatants cited intensified military pressure from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), supported by the Wazalendo militia, as a key factor behind their surrender.
