Sudanese Army Says It Is Advancing Against RSF Across Fronts

Khartoum, August 3, 2026 - Senior Sudanese army commander Yasir al-Atta said the military is advancing on all fronts against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and vowed to remove RSF fighters and foreign mercenaries from Sudan by the end of 2026. Al-Atta made the remarks while addressing fighters alongside Musa Hilal, leader of the Mahameed tribe, and al-Nur al-Gubba, a brigadier general who defected from the RSF.

The location of the gathering was not specified. Hilal has mobilized hundreds of supporters since leaving his Mustariha stronghold in North Darfur after an RSF attack in February. His fighters have been training near Omdurman, adding to the array of armed groups aligned with the army.

The comments followed a surprise army offensive about 10 days earlier that captured Bara, Jabrat al-Sheikh, Um Siyala and key positions on the export road linking Omdurman to El Obeid in North Kordofan. Those gains improve the army's position for potential operations toward North Darfur or West Kordofan, while strengthening security around Omdurman and reducing the threat to El Obeid.
