Sudanese Army Downs Long-Range Drone as Fighting Intensifies in White Nile
KHARTOUM, July 2, 2026 - The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Thursday that they had intercepted and destroyed a long-range drone operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over Tendalti in White Nile State, amid escalating hostilities in central Sudan. According to the military, air defense units shot down what was described as a strategic drone during the morning hours. Authorities later released footage showing the aircraft being intercepted in flight. The incident comes as the RSF has intensified drone attacks across El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, and along the strategic highway linking North Kordofan with White Nile State. Military officials say the recent strikes have also targeted the cities of Kosti and Rabak, damaging fuel stations and other public infrastructure. The attacks have reportedly resulted in civilian casualties and disrupted essential services, adding to growing humanitarian concerns in the affected areas. White Nile State Governor Qamar al-Din Mohammed Fadl al-Mawla praised the performance of the army's air defense systems, describing the interception as evidence of the state's preparedness to respond to aerial threats. The governor reaffirmed his administration's support for the Sudanese military and allied forces, stating that security operations would continue until government control is restored across all contested areas.
