Sudan Condemns Museveni-Hemedti Meeting, Diplomatic Tensions Rise

Kigali, February 23, 2026 - Sudan strongly criticized Uganda following a meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), intensifying diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Sudanese authorities described the visit of Dagalo, also known as “Hemedti,”, as an affront to human rights and to the Sudanese people, accusing the RSF leader of responsibility for widespread violence and civilian deaths during the ongoing Sudan conflict.

Officials in Khartoum argued that hosting the RSF leader constitutes a violation of international norms, which discourage support or engagement with armed groups opposing a recognized government.

During the meeting held on 20 February 2026, President Museveni emphasized the need for dialogue and political solutions as the only sustainable path toward peace in Sudan.

The visit comes as the Rapid Support Forces remain engaged in heavy fighting against Sudanese government forces, with the group facing serious accusations of war crimes and genocide.
