South Kivu: two dead and several wounded in clashes between FARDC and Wazalendo in Kamituga
Two people were killed and several others wounded in clashes on the night of Thursday, 9 October 2025, between the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and Wazalendo fighters in Kamituga, a gold-mining town in South Kivu. According to local civil society, hostilities broke out after the assassination of an FARDC captain attributed to armed men associated with Wazalendo, leading to four hours of fighting and scenes of looting.
On Friday 10 October, a precarious calm prevailed, but traffic remained paralysed. Residents fear a resumption of violence in a context of growing insecurity marked by murders, thefts and human rights violations.
