South Kivu: six rebels captured in Uvira by the FARDC

By Sarah Ndaya2 min readFrançais

The Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) captured six rebels, including three from the AFC/M23 and three from their Twirwaneho allies, in Uvira, South Kivu, and presented the detainees to the Sukola II operational sector headquarters on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. According to Second Lieutenant Mbuyi Kalonji Reagan, army spokesperson, two other rebels voluntarily surrendered, illustrating the FARDC's determination to consolidate control of the area.

Despite these successes, several territories in South Kivu and the city of Bukavu remain under the influence of M23 rebels, while Uvira remains under the control of the FARDC, supported by Wazalendo elements. The military authorities have called on the population to remain vigilant and to support security efforts, stressing that the sustainable stabilisation of the province remains a strategic priority for the Congolese government.
