Sikasso, Mali - JNIM Seizes Three Army Barracks in Kalana
Sikasso, December 26, 2025 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) announced that it had taken control of three Malian army barracks in the town of Kalana, located in the Sikasso region, on the morning of Friday, December 26, 2025.
This marks a significant escalation in JNIM’s operations in southern Mali, coming just one day after its takeover of a military post in Garlou. The group’s claims indicate a coordinated effort to expand influence over key military sites in the region.
Malian authorities have not yet released official statements regarding casualties, the number of soldiers affected, or current control of the barracks. Security forces are reportedly mobilizing to assess the situation, reinforce strategic positions, and plan countermeasures to regain control.
