Sikasso - GSIM Seizes Equipment in Attack on Malian Army Post in Kalana
Kalana, February 16, 2026 - The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM) announced that it carried out an attack on a Malian army post in Kalana, Sikasso region, on Monday, February 16, 2026, resulting in the seizure of a military vehicle, several weapons, and other military equipment. According to local sources, the attackers took control of the post, set fire to multiple vehicles and equipment, and then withdrew from the site. Officials noted that Malian soldiers retreated immediately upon the attackers’ arrival, and no casualties were reported on either side. The incident highlights ongoing security vulnerabilities in parts of the Sikasso region and the continuing activity of armed groups targeting military installations.
