Seven Killed in Drone Strikes on Sudan’s El Obeid

El Obeid, April 25, 2026 - At least seven civilians were killed and several others injured on Saturday after drone strikes hit multiple areas in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.

Local medical sources reported that the attack also left 22 people wounded, with injuries ranging from moderate to critical. The strikes reportedly targeted residential neighbourhoods across the city.

El Obeid has increasingly become a strategic military hub for army operations in Darfur and Kordofan, and has frequently been subjected to drone attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which seek to disrupt military advances in southern and western Kordofan.

A medical advocacy network said the city was struck by what it described as “suicide drones,” alleging that the attacks deliberately targeted densely populated civilian areas rather than military installations. It condemned the strikes as a violation of international humanitarian law, citing the high number of civilian casualties.

The organization warned that the use of drones in residential zones reflects a growing disregard for civilian protection amid worsening humanitarian conditions and collapsing health services.

It also called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to pressure armed actors to halt repeated attacks on populated areas and ensure the protection of non-combatants.
