Security Mission Visits Kisengo After FARDC-Wazalendo Clashes

Nyunzu, August 14, 2026 - A security mission led by Colonel Alex Munyalizi Bamaraki of the Usalama forces, alongside Yoane Sululu and Colonel Luntu Kasongo of the Requin battalion, visited Kisengo village in Tanganyika province after clashes between Wazalendo militia members and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The visit followed an August 12 incident near Kyoko in which Wazalendo fighters opened fire on four FARDC soldiers during a patrol. Two Wazalendo fighters were killed in that confrontation, while earlier violence in the area had left four Wazalendo members and one civilian dead.

Kisengo chief Joseph Lokombe said residents remained concerned about harassment by Wazalendo elements and the broader lack of security control in the area. He praised the Requin battalion for efforts to maintain order and support the local population.

The mission highlights the continuing difficulty of stabilizing parts of Tanganyika where militia activity complicates state authority, civilian protection and local economic activity.
