Mopti Region, April 16, 2026 - A second security incident was reported on Thursday in central Mali, where a Malian army vehicle was targeted by an improvised explosive device near Doindori, in the Mopti region. The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amid a series of coordinated incidents reported in the same general area within a short timeframe. The latest explosion follows another attack earlier the same day between Tenenkou and Djondjogori, highlighting a renewed spike in insecurity in the region. Military and local sources indicate that the back-to-back incidents reflect heightened operational activity by armed groups in central Mali, where security forces have maintained a sustained presence in response to ongoing threats. Authorities have not yet released an official assessment of casualties or material damage, while security operations continue in the affected areas.
