Rwandans Abroad Mark 32nd Liberation Day with Focus on Development and International

Kigali, July 5, 2026 - MOSCOW/BEIJING, July 5, 2026 - Rwandan communities in Russia, Belarus, and China joined celebrations of the 32nd anniversary of Rwanda's Liberation Day, highlighting the country's post-1994 progress, national unity, and growing international partnerships.

In Moscow, more than 350 guests, including diplomats, government officials, military representatives, and members of the Rwandan diaspora, attended a ceremony organized by the Rwandan Embassy. The event emphasized Rwanda's development since the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the country's commitment to expanding cooperation with Russia in areas such as healthcare, education, nuclear energy, and defense. Embassy officials also encouraged Rwandan students studying abroad to acquire scientific and technological skills that can contribute to Rwanda's future development.

Meanwhile, in Beijing, diplomats and friends of Rwanda gathered to commemorate Liberation Day while celebrating the growing relationship between Rwanda and China ahead of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The event highlighted Rwanda's economic transformation over the past three decades and reaffirmed the importance of continued nation-building, resilience, and sustainable development.

Chinese officials reaffirmed their country's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Rwanda, citing expanding collaboration in trade, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. The celebrations in both capitals also paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and reflected on Rwanda's continued efforts to promote peace, security, and economic growth under the theme, "Rwanda's Journey Continues."
