Rwandan soldiers in South Sudan receive UN commendation medals

Juba, October 30, 2025 - JUBA, South Sudan - Rwandan troops deployed in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have been awarded medals of commendation for their exceptional service. The ceremony took place at the Durupi military base on the outskirts of Juba, recognizing the contributions of RWANBATT-3 and RAU-13 contingents.

In his address, UN Force Commander Lt. Gen. Mohan Subramanian praised the Rwandan soldiers for their professionalism, dedication, and exemplary performance during peacekeeping operations. He highlighted Rwanda as one of the world’s top five troop-contributing countries.

Lt. Gen. Subramanian emphasized that the Rwandan troops’ conduct and commitment have significantly advanced peace and stability in South Sudan during their one-year deployment.

Col. Leodomir Uwizeyimana, Commander of the Rwanda Defence Forces in South Sudan, expressed gratitude to partner countries, local communities, and the people of South Sudan for their collaboration, which enabled the Rwandan forces to carry out their mission effectively.

He further commended the Rwandan troops for their discipline and dedication, reaffirming that they will continue to protect civilians and their property in line with the United Nations Charter.

The award underscores Rwanda’s growing reputation for professionalism and reliability in international peacekeeping operations.
