Rwandan Security Forces Support Education in Mozambique

Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, 16 March 2026 - Rwandan Security Forces deployed in Cabo Delgado Province have donated school supplies to students at Buji Primary School, in collaboration with local authorities, as part of ongoing efforts to support communities affected by conflict. The donation, made on 16 March 2026, will benefit 525 students at the school, located in Mocímboa da Praia District. School principal Lahaia Tomé expressed gratitude for the continued support, noting its positive impact on both the school and the wider community. The district’s Director of Education, Salmo Bacary, also praised the initiative, highlighting the role of Rwandan forces not only in restoring security but also in supporting the education sector. This contribution follows a similar project earlier in March, when Rwandan forces handed over a newly renovated school building in Macomia District. The facility, which includes three classrooms and two offices, was completed in three months after construction had been halted due to terrorist attacks, and now serves 150 students. Lt Col Frank Rwabugande, in charge of civil-military relations, said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to promoting education and strengthening ties with local communities. “This school is not just a building, but a symbol of unity and cooperation between the people of Rwanda and Mozambique,” he said. Since July 2021, Rwandan and Mozambican security forces have worked together to combat insurgent groups in Cabo Delgado, restoring stability in areas previously affected by violence. The improved security situation has enabled displaced residents to return home and allowed the gradual restoration of basic services, including infrastructure and electricity.
