Rwandan Security Forces Commended Upon Return from Mozambique Peacekeeping Mission
Kigali, October 29, 2025 - KIGALI - The Chief of Defence Staff, Maj Gen Alex Kagame, and Rwanda National Police Deputy Inspector General for Operations (DIGP) Vincent Sano, officially received a team of Rwandan soldiers and police officers returning from a year-long peacekeeping mission in Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique. The contingent, led by Major General Emmy K. Ruvusha, arrived in Kigali on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Maj Gen Kagame praised the personnel for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to continue upholding the values of the Rwandan security forces.
Rwandan troops and police have been deployed in Mozambique since 2021 to help combat the insurgency that has devastated the northern Cabo Delgado Province. Their efforts have reportedly helped drive out terrorists, restore security in affected areas, and enable displaced residents to return home.
In August 2025, Rwanda and Mozambique signed new agreements on security and trade cooperation, reinforcing bilateral collaboration in the region.
The returning personnel were replaced by a new team led by Maj Gen Vincent Gatama, which will continue to participate in counter-terrorism operations in Cabo Delgado.
This deployment highlights Rwanda’s ongoing commitment to regional peacekeeping and security efforts in East Africa.
