Rwandan Peacekeepers Provide Medical Care in South Sudan

Diel, August 3, 2026 - Rwandan peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan provided free medical services to civilians in Diel, Upper Nile State, during a routine security patrol along the Nile River and surrounding areas.

The outreach included diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses, malaria screening and treatment, child healthcare, health education and general medical consultations. The Rwandan contingent also distributed essential medicines to residents with limited access to health facilities.

Lt Col Robert Rwagihungu, commander of the Rwandan Peacekeeping Force in UNMISS Malakal, said medical personnel accompanied the patrol to reach underserved communities. The activity underscored Rwanda's continued role in international peacekeeping, where military deployments often combine civilian protection with humanitarian support.
