Rwandan Ambassador Vincent Karega Presents Credentials in Algeria

Kigali, October 20, 2025 - Ambassador Vincent Karega, Rwanda’s first resident envoy to Algeria, officially presented his credentials to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. The announcement was shared on October 28, 2025, via the X platform.

“I am pleased to present my credentials to President Tebboune of Algeria as the first Rwandan Ambassador to reside in this country. Rwanda and Algeria are committed to working together to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in all areas,” Karega said.

Ambassador Karega joins other diplomats presenting credentials to President Tebboune, including representatives from Bangladesh, Austria, Sweden, Ukraine, and Egypt.

Rwanda and Algeria maintain cooperation in security and education, with Rwandan students pursuing studies in the Arabic, French, and Tamazight-speaking country. Since 1982, the two nations have signed agreements covering economic, social, cultural, and cooperative sectors.

In December 2023, Algeria opened its embassy in Kigali, reflecting both nations’ commitment to deepening relations. Earlier, on June 3, 2025, President Paul Kagame visited Algeria, touring the National School of Artificial Intelligence, a leading institution attended by Rwandan students, and holding talks with President Tebboune on cross-border trade and knowledge sharing.

Ambassador Karega previously represented Rwanda in South Africa until 2019, then in the Democratic Republic of the Congo until October 31, 2022, when he left amid strained bilateral relations. On December 20, 2024, he was appointed Special Ambassador in charge of the Great Lakes Region.

His current posting in Algeria is seen as a milestone in expanding Rwanda-Algeria diplomatic and cooperative engagement.
