Rwanda Security Forces Launch Nationwide Welfare Projects Worth Rwf2.5 Billion

Kigali, March 10, 2026 - The Rwanda Defence Forces and the Rwanda National Police have launched a nationwide campaign of social welfare and development projects valued at more than Rwf2.5 billion, marking the 32nd anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation.

The three-month initiative, unveiled across multiple provinces, will focus on improving living conditions through interventions in healthcare, education, environmental protection, infrastructure, livestock distribution, and housing for vulnerable families.

In Kigali, the program was officially launched by Deputy Commissioner General Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, who emphasized that security institutions must go beyond maintaining order to actively contribute to citizens’ well-being.

The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, praised the role of security forces in supporting key sectors such as education. Authorities announced that, in the capital alone, classrooms, sanitation facilities, and an Early Childhood Development (ECD) center in Ndera Sector will be constructed at a cost exceeding Rwf350 million.

Housing and Infrastructure Projects Across Provinces

In the Western Province, Police Commissioner Felix Namuhoranye, Governor Jean Bosco Ntibitura, and military officials launched the construction of 30 houses for vulnerable families in Nyabihu District.

“Protecting the country goes hand in hand with improving the welfare of its people,” Namuhoranye said, highlighting the practical impact of the initiative.

In the Southern Province, Defence Minister Juvenal Marizamunda and Governor Alice Kayitesi presided over the launch of new classroom construction at Kigese Technical Secondary School in Kamonyi District.

Marizamunda noted that the program strengthens cooperation between citizens, local authorities, and security institutions, stressing that sustainable security depends on development and public participation.

Healthcare and Connectivity in the North

In Northern Province, health-focused activities were launched at Byumba Teaching Hospital by State Minister Yvan Butera and senior military health officials. Services provided include surgery, pediatrics, dermatology, dentistry, and other specialized care, delivered jointly by military and civilian medical teams.

Meanwhile, authorities also launched the reconstruction of the Ryabazira bridge, a key link connecting communities in Musanze and Gakenke districts. Officials say the project will restore mobility, boost trade, and facilitate access to schools and markets.

Livelihood Support and Environmental Efforts in the East

In Eastern Province, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Solange Uwituze, distributed livestock-including cows and goats-to 32 vulnerable families in Kayonza District to support income generation and food security.

Chief of Defence Staff Mubarakh Muganga joined residents in Gatsibo District for environmental activities, including tree planting, urging sustained community participation.

“These initiatives have expanded from short-term efforts to long-term programs aimed at providing practical solutions,” he said.
