Rwanda Police Inducts 1,903 Graduates Trained in Unarmed Combat

Kigali, December 23, 2025 - The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has inducted 1,903 new officers who completed an intensive eight-month training program in self-defense without weapons, demonstrating skills designed to defeat enemies using only their physical strength.

The induction ceremony, held on 22 December 2025, celebrated 359 female and 1,544 male graduates. Among them, 40 trainees will be assigned to the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), while 178 officers trained at the Musanze Police College will continue studies across various departments.

The training equipped officers with the ability to fight swiftly in all directions, apply great force, and defend themselves even when opponents use truncheons or other weapons. Instructors emphasized using speed, precision, and body control as the primary tools of defense.

Addressing the new officers, Minister of Security Dr. Vincent Biruta urged them to uphold politeness, professionalism, and sincerity, while rejecting blame and striving for the pride of Rwanda. He emphasized collaboration with other institutions and placing citizens at the center of all police programs, noting that “the good of Rwandans is all we strive for.”

These young men and women now join the RNP ready to ensure the security of Rwandans and the protection of their property in every possible circumstance.
