Rwanda Engages Defence Attachés on Regional Security and Military Cooperation

The Ministry of Defence hosted a high-level meeting in Kigali on 27 November 2025, bringing together Defence Attachés accredited to Rwanda for an extensive briefing on the country’s security environment and regional dynamics. The discussions also highlighted the role of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) in peacekeeping operations and international military cooperation.

The delegation was received by Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa, the Director General for International Military Cooperation, who led the technical session.

Rwanda Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Cooperation

Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda thanked the Defence Attachés for their continued partnership in supporting efforts to maintain peace and stability.

He emphasized that Rwanda remains fully committed to working with treaty partners and international organizations to confront evolving security challenges.

Following the presentations, participants held open discussions, assessing shared security concerns, regional hotspots, and opportunities to deepen bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation.

The engagement underscored the RDF’s commitment to military diplomacy, fostering stronger relationships with friendly nations and enhancing mutual understanding of security priorities.

The conference gathered Defence Attachés and representatives from 25 countries and international organizations, including:

United States, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Sweden, Poland, Angola, Ghana, Botswana, South Korea, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Kenya, Czech Republic, Tanzania, Namibia, as well as the European Union (EU) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
