Rwanda Army Chief Visits Peacekeepers In Central African Republic

Bangui, August 8, 2026 - Rwanda's Army Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, visited Rwandan troops serving in the Central African Republic, commending their professionalism and role in peacekeeping operations.

Nyakarundi met members of the RWABAT-1 unit deployed at the Socatel M'Poko facility in Bangui under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic. He delivered a message from President Paul Kagame recognizing the soldiers' contribution to peace and security.

He briefed the troops on Rwanda's security situation and regional developments, urging them to maintain discipline, uphold Rwanda Defence Force values and protect the military's reputation. Nyakarundi also met MINUSCA Force Commander Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone for talks on the UN mission and the role of Rwandan troops in supporting stability in the Central African Republic.

Nyakarundi was also due to attend the graduation of Central African Armed Forces personnel trained by the Rwanda Defence Force and hold further discussions with MINUSCA officials and Central African authorities on security and military cooperation.
