Rwanda And Uganda Commanders Hold Border Security Talks In Mbarara
Kigali, August 28, 2026 - Rwanda and Uganda held a border commanders' meeting in Mbarara, Uganda, as the two governments continued military coordination along their shared frontier.
The Rwanda Defence Forces delegation was led by Maj. Gen. Ruki Karusisi, commander of the 5th Division, and attended the 8th Border Commanders' Meeting on August 27. The talks brought together RDF officers and Uganda People's Defence Forces commanders to discuss border security cooperation and mechanisms for resolving potential incidents.
The Rwandan delegation was received by Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, commander of the UPDF 2nd Division. Before the formal meeting, the two military delegations joined local leaders and residents in Kamwezi, Rukiga District, for a tree-planting activity.
The engagement underlined the continuing normalization of Rwanda-Uganda security ties, with both sides presenting stability on one side of the border as linked to stability on the other.
