Rwanda and Tanzania Hold 14th Border Military Commanders’ Meeting to Strengthen Security

Ngoma District, Rwanda - December 4, 2025 ; The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) and Tanzanian Defence Forces (TPDF) concluded the 14th Border Military Commanders’ Meeting, held from December 2 to 4, 2025 in Ngoma District, Eastern Province, reaffirming their commitment to security and stability along the Rwanda-Tanzania border.

These quarterly meetings provide a platform for military commanders to review security developments, discuss illegal cross-border activities, and implement measures to protect border communities. Delegates also assessed progress since the 13th meeting in Ngara, Tanzania, in September 2025.

Maj Gen Ruki Karusisi, Commander of the RDF 5th Division, emphasized that military cooperation is a “strong pillar” that reinforces the good relations between the two countries. “Our cooperation is based on mutual respect, professionalism, and a shared vision to maintain peace in the region,” he said.

Brig Gen Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa, Commander of the TPDF 202nd Brigade, highlighted the constructive and professional engagement, noting that the meeting strengthens trust and joint security cooperation between the two armed forces.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to information sharing, conducting joint patrols, and maintaining close coordination between neighboring forces. Both sides stressed that this collaboration is essential for regional peace and the well-being of border communities.

The 14th meeting underscores the long-standing partnership between Rwanda and Tanzania in promoting peace, security, and shared stability in the region.
