Rwanda and Qatar Deepen Military Cooperation Through Training
Gako, August 12, 2026 - Rwanda and Qatar have expanded military cooperation with the completion of a seven-week Military Police and leaders' protection course at Gako Military Academy.
The program, conducted with the Qatari Armed Forces, trained 146 Rwandan soldiers, including officers, in military police duties, protection of senior officials, counterterrorism, urban combat skills and protest and riot management. The course concluded on August 11.
Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mubarakh Muganga presided over the graduation ceremony, attended by Qatar's Ambassador to Rwanda Mansoor Ali Al-Hajri, senior Qatari military officers and Rwandan military leaders.
Muganga said the training strengthened Rwanda's Military Police capabilities and contributed to wider military professionalization. He urged graduates to apply the skills acquired and share knowledge with other servicemen.
The program adds to growing Rwanda-Qatar security ties, particularly in professional training, knowledge exchange and the sharing of military experience.
