Rwanda and Poland Celebrate Liberation Day and Six Decades of Diplomatic Relations

Kigali, July 7, 2026 - WARSAW, Poland, July 7, 2026 - Rwanda marked the 32nd Liberation Day in Poland with celebrations highlighting more than six decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries and their growing cooperation in diplomacy, trade, and development.

The ceremony, held in Warsaw, brought together Polish government officials, diplomats, academics, business representatives, members of the Rwandan community, and friends of Rwanda. Participants reflected on Rwanda's progress since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the strengthening of bilateral ties, including the establishment of resident embassies and expanded economic cooperation.

Rwanda's Ambassador to Poland, Prof. Anastase Shyaka, paid tribute to the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) and the former Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) for ending the genocide and laying the foundation for national unity, security, and development. He also thanked Polish institutions and partners for their support during his five-year tenure as ambassador, noting that his term had come to an end.

Representing the Polish government, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Wojciech Zajączkowski praised Rwanda's recovery and resilience, describing the country's transformation as a remarkable achievement after the tragedy of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The event concluded with cultural performances by members of the Rwandan diaspora, celebrating the friendship between the two nations.
