RSF-SPLM-N Alliance Attacks Geisan In Blue Nile
Geisan, August 11, 2026 - An alliance of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North launched a heavy attack on Geisan in Sudan's Blue Nile region, intensifying fighting near the Ethiopian border. Local officials said the Sudanese army and allied forces were engaged in fierce clashes to repel the assault on the county headquarters.
Officials said RSF fighters reached the main market, looted shops and opened fire on civilians. The Geisan County administration accused fighters loyal to senior SPLM-N commander Joseph Tuka of participating in the attack and described the assault during the planting season as a deliberate strike on civilians.
It said military forces were continuing to defend the town. Sudanese authorities have accused Ethiopia of facilitating cross-border fighter movements into Blue Nile and hosting RSF recruitment camps, allegations Addis Ababa has previously denied. The area remains strategically sensitive after the army recaptured nearby Kurmuk in June from the RSF-SPLM-N alliance, following renewed fighting in a region with a long history of insurgency and border conflict.
