RSF Attacks Near Bara Displace Thousands In North Kordofan
Bara, August 30, 2026 - Attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces west of Bara in North Kordofan killed at least five civilians and displaced more than 3,000 people, underscoring the continued volatility of areas recently retaken by the Sudanese army.
The Sudanese Doctors Network said RSF fighters attacked the villages of Al-Qaa and Al-Kawakiti on Saturday evening, executed five young men, looted livestock and homes, and forced residents to flee. Some displaced people, including women, children and elderly civilians, reached western Omdurman in critical humanitarian conditions.
The Sudanese army and allied forces recaptured Bara and surrounding areas on July 25-26, pushing RSF units toward West Bara and Sodari. Residents said retreating RSF fighters then escalated attacks on civilians, looted crops and livestock, and blocked several villages, cutting off food deliveries.
The medical group said the attacks appeared intended to empty villages west of Bara and seize civilian property. It urged international pressure on RSF commanders to halt attacks, protect civilians and allow humanitarian access.
The violence highlights the risks facing transport routes, agricultural production and humanitarian operations in Kordofan, a strategically important region in a war that has displaced millions and created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
