Reports of Military Withdrawals and High-Level Political Uncertainty Following Offensive
Bamako, April 26, 2026 - The aftermath of the coordinated offensive launched across Mali continued to unfold, with significant developments reported in both northern and central regions, alongside major political uncertainty in Bamako.
In Kidal, reports indicated that negotiations led to the opening of a secure corridor allowing the withdrawal of Malian forces and foreign military personnel associated with them. According to these accounts, the evacuation took place without direct confrontation, although heavy military equipment and vehicles were reportedly left behind. These claims have not been independently verified by official sources.
In parallel, Malian authorities confirmed the death of the Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Lieutenant General Sadio Camara, following an attack on his residence in Bamako. The attack also reportedly resulted in the deaths of members of his family.
Authorities have not released detailed information on the circumstances surrounding the incident, and security conditions in the capital remain tense.
In addition, uncertainty surrounds the status of transitional President General Assimi Goïta, who has not made any public appearance since the escalation of attacks. No official communication has clarified his whereabouts at this stage.
These developments come amid a rapidly evolving security and political situation, with competing reports and limited verified information, reflecting a period of heightened instability across multiple regions of the country.
