Rapid Support Forces Launch Coordinated Drone Attacks On Major Cities

Khartoum, August 12, 2026 - The Rapid Support Forces launched coordinated kamikaze drone attacks against several major Sudanese cities, including El Obeid, Atbara, Omdurman and Khartoum North, signaling a continued expansion of the war's aerial threat beyond front-line areas. In El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, several suicide drones targeted the city before army air defences shot down two of them.

Residents heard multiple explosions as anti-aircraft systems engaged the drones overhead. In Khartoum state, army air defences repelled drones aimed at western Omdurman. Another drone targeting the Al Drushab area north of Khartoum North was shot down before reaching its target and fell inside a local mosque.

In Atbara, River Nile state's largest city and an important northern hub, drones were intercepted before causing major damage. Several crashed into agricultural land near Um Al Tuyour on the west bank of the Nile, with no casualties reported. The attacks underline the RSF's capacity to pressure multiple urban centers simultaneously and raise risks for transport corridors, fuel logistics and civilian infrastructure in areas that have become critical to the army's wartime administration and supply chains.
