Police Arrest 39 Suspected Armed Bandits, Including Those Who Murdered a Security Agent
Lubumbashi DRC February 2, 2026 - The Congolese National Police (PNC) conducted a major security operation in Haut-Katanga province. In Lubumbashi, thirty-nine (39) suspected criminals were presented on Monday, including individuals believed responsible for the murder of an agent of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR). According to Deputy Divisional Commissioner Blaise Kilimbalimba, provincial commissioner of the PNC in Haut-Katanga, this operation was possible due to close collaboration between the police and the public. The suspects were presented at the provincial police headquarters. “They were carrying a loaded AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition, bladed weapons, and dozens of stolen cell phones,” stated Deputy Divisional Commissioner Kilimbalimba. These arrests are the result of operations conducted in several sensitive neighborhoods, including the Mzee market on Sendwe Avenue, Usines Avenue, Mama Yemo, and the Likasi road. “The group apprehended is heterogeneous but considered particularly dangerous. Thirteen (13) of them are believed to specialize in armed robbery, and the network involved in the recent assassination of an ANR agent has been dismantled,” said police intelligence services in Haut-Katanga. Deputy Divisional Commissioner Kilimbalimba commended the public for their role in reporting criminals: “I commend the courage of the population in reporting criminals. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to apprehending all these criminals who disturb the peace. Vigilance must remain paramount,” he declared. All suspected criminals will be transferred to the competent judicial authorities to face legal proceedings.
