PDDRCS Seen as Key to Strengthening Peace Efforts in Ituri

Djugu, Ituri, February 7, 2026 - The administrator of Djugu territory, Chief Commissioner Ruffin Mapela, has emphasized that the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (PDDRCS) could play a critical role in strengthening peace efforts in Ituri. Speaking on Saturday, February 7, the Congolese National Police officer praised armed groups that are implementing recommendations from the Aru 1 and Aru 2 talks. “It is already a first step for us to see these young armed men agree to meet and seek solutions for peace. We know that there is a program, the disarmament and demobilization program, which should support these young people who participated in the Aru 1 and Aru 2 dialogues so that they can implement the resolutions from these meetings,” said Mapela. The administrator also acknowledged that one armed group continues to disrupt the situation. He pledged to take all necessary steps to involve this faction in the peace program. “There are always difficulties that require solutions. Since other armed groups have agreed to join this program and surrender their weapons, we will continue to build on this momentum so that peace is fully restored throughout the country,” Mapela concluded.
