Parliament Approves UPDF Deployment To Gaza Peace Mission
Kampala, August 8, 2026 - Parliament has approved a government request to deploy Uganda People's Defence Forces units to a Gaza peace mission, after heated debate over mandate, risk and Uganda's wider foreign-policy posture.
The vote places Uganda among African contributors prepared to support international stabilisation efforts beyond the Horn of Africa missions that have long defined Kampala's security diplomacy.
For investors and partners, the decision signals continued willingness to use the UPDF as an instrument of foreign policy, while also raising questions about costs, rules of engagement and how such deployments interact with domestic force readiness.
