North Kivu: U.S. Warns of Ceasefire Violations Amid Renewed Fighting

By Sarah Ndaya2 min readFrançais

Masisi, North Kivu, DRC - Intense clashes erupted on Friday, October 31, in the Osso Banyungu chiefdom, Masisi territory, between M23 rebels and Wazalendo militias, despite an existing ceasefire.

Reacting to the renewed hostilities, Massad Boulos, Africa advisor at the U.S. State Department, expressed concern over repeated violations of peace commitments. He warned that such incidents risk undermining the progress achieved under the Doha peace process.

Washington urged all parties to exercise restraint and immediately return to dialogue, emphasizing that continued fighting could further destabilize eastern DRC and derail ongoing peace efforts.
