North Kivu: Armed Bandits Rob Travelers on National Route 2 in Rutshuru
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, a public transport vehicle was intercepted by armed bandits on National Route 2, between Kiwanja and Kanyabayonga, in the Rutshuru territory of North Kivu.
At gunpoint, passengers were forced to exit the vehicle and lie on the ground before being robbed of phones, money, merchandise, and other valuables. This marks the third attack on this stretch of road in a month, following the October 29 incident that left two people dead.
Authorities warn that this event reflects the resurgence of violence on this strategic road, where armed groups regularly operate, disrupting traffic and endangering the civilian population.
